What is WRIGHT's ZEROG MEMORY FOAM?
We developed our ZeroG foam to improve on the responsiveness of traditional memory foam. Visco-elastic memory foam is the absolute best for comfort and pressure relief, but it has a tendency to feel dead or unresponsive. Some foams take more than 8 seconds to return to their original shape and this leads to a “stuck-in-the-mud” feeling that inhibits movement. We solved this problem in our top layer by bringing the response rate down to 2.4 seconds but we took things a step farther in layers 2 and 3 to provide an even more responsive base.
The ZeroG foam returns to its original form even faster than our 3Below foam and does so more forcefully. Some of our customers have referred to it as “memory foam with bounce” and that description is quite apt. Your movements are unimpeded and the foam follows the contours of your body instantaneously providing support.
To do this – we made some changes to the actual superstructures of the foam cells. We added additional polymer to the mixture that is designed to coat the rectangular cell walls with additional material. This means that the ZeroG foam is stronger, more resilient, and more responsive on a cellular level.
In addition to making the foam more responsive to user movement the foam itself is much more durable than conventional visco-elastic foam and even super dense High Resiliency memory foam. In the ASTM F 1566 height test – our ZeroG foam typically loses less than 1.5% of its height after 10 years of simulated use. Cheaper foams can lose between 5%-20% over a ten-year lifespan and much of that is often within the first few months of use.
We were also able to lower the Glass Transition temperature of the ZeroG foam from 50-60 degrees to 35-40 degrees. The Glass Transition temperature is the temperature at which the foam cells themselves start to stiffen. This is most obvious in memory foam mattresses that feel very stiff in a cold room. By lowering the temperature of this transition we can assure a soft surface the moment you get into bed in all but the coldest environments.
The ZeroG foam has been specifically designed to become more responsive in higher temperatures. Meaning your body temperature will slightly soften the foam and get springier. The foam itself is activated by your body heat.
